Global Fund for Women
One hundred percent of the authors’ royalties from Wonder Girls: Changing Our World go to the Global Fund for Women, which funds grassroots groups of activist girls and women in 177 countries.
Musimbi Kanyoro, President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women, wrote the Foreword for Wonder Girls. She joined the Global Fund in 2011. Born in Kenya, Musimbi earned PhD’s in both Linguistics and Feminist Theology. In 1998, Dr. Kanyoro became general secretary (CEO) of the World YWCA and transformed it into a young-women-led organization. She was subsequently Director for Population and Reproductive Health at David and Lucile Packard Foundation. In 2015, Forbes Magazine named her one of 10 women “power brands” working for gender equality.
The Global Fund for Women currently provides grants to four of the 15 groups in Wonder Girls, and previously provided seed funding to two others.
The Global Fund’s vision: “Only when women and girls have full access to their rights – from equal pay and land ownership rights to sexual rights, freedom from violence, access to education, and maternal health rights – will true equality exist. Only when women have taken leadership and peacemaking roles and have an equal political voice, will economies and countries be transformed. And only then will all women and girls have the self-determination they are entitled to.”
